Mercy

An unidentified truck driver kills Mukki, a young Indian, in a hit-and-run accident. Thomas from Switzerland who seeks recreation and solitude in the forests of Canada, sets out to chase a black truck and attracts the suspicions of police officer Laurie, who is investigating the tricky case. Deeply hurt in his mourning and his pride Mukki’s uncle also goes North hunting for the killer on the run …

Fulvio Bernasconi’s dense, atmospheric road thriller narrates a very generous version of guilt and atonement, in which there seems to be some sort of natural magnetism between the two poles. The film’s utopia is even more effective as it is paralleled with conventional law enforcement.
