Award-winners of the Saas-Fee Filmfest

Critics Award goes to Germany – Audience Award goes to Switzerland
 

Saas-Fee, 23th March 2014 – With the Award Ceremony on Sunday evening the 1st Saas-Fee Filmfest (SFFF) came to a successful end. All four prizes went to debut films. The Prize for the Best Film was devided between the German production LOVE STEAKS by Jakob Lass, a two-person chamber-piece with Lana Cooper and Franz Rogowski, and the Austrian contribution SOLDATE JEANNETTE by Daniel Hoesl, a film focussed on acting, and dealing with the possibilities of breaking out of one’s life.
The Critics Jury gave their prize to the German contribution FINSTERWORLD by Frauke Finsterwalder, which is based on the script of Swiss writer Christian Kracht. With actors like Sandra Hüller, Corinna Harfouch and Swiss Carla Juri, FINSTERWORLD has a celebrity cast.
The Audience Award went to the Swiss film SITTING NEXT TO ZOE by Ivana Lalovic, who hails from Sarajevo. The film is about joy and troubles of two adolescent girls.
The nine films in competition showed the whole range of new upcoming cinema from Switzerland and its four neighbouring countries, in which the languages of Switzerland are spoken: Italy, France, Germany and Austria. The two festival directors Stefan Fichtner and Gabriel Zurbriggen were very content at the closing of the first edition of their festival in the snowy ski resort. „The enthusiasm and the generosity of our partners and the great resonance from locals as well as tourists shows us, that our festival has arrived in Saas-Fee.“ they resumed. „We are conviced, that Saas-Fee has the potential, to develop here a film festival with a high reputation.“
Wednesday until Sunday nine films on competion as well as five contributions out of competition were shown. The 2nd Saas-Fee Filmfest will take place from 18th until 22nd March 2015.
The international Jury was comprised of Italian actress Sandra Ceccarelli, German director-producer Jessica Krummacher and Swiss film- and theatre-maker Urs Odermatt. The international Critics Jury consisted of France-based Dutch film critic Boyd van Hoeij (Hollywood Reporter), Germany-based British film journalist Martin Blaney (Screen International) and Christian Jungen of the Sunday issue of Neue Zürcher Zeitung.
