Gabriel Zurbriggen - Festival Manager

It has always been my dream to bring my world from abroad back home. As an actor it is the world of playing, exchange and challenge, of showing the inside of human beings. I’m very glad to have found an opportunity with our film festival. It took the seed of the Saas-Fee Filmfest around three years to grow. The start of all would not be possible without Beat Anthamatten who constantly believed in this culturally valuable event. In Saas-Fee, with no cars and an outstanding scenery of high mountains and our venerable Cinema Rex – in which I sort of grew up - we find the perfect place to relax, do winter sports and enjoy cinema at the same time. Our knowledge and connections to film business adds the rest. I couldn‘t imagine better and more helpful partners than the one we found for our festival, a big „Thank you!“ to all of them! The cornerstone is set. Let’s hope for a lot of spectators who will exchange lively after having seen our selection of inspiring movies and leave with a fulfilled heart and spirit.

There‘s something burning ...
The films in our competition explore new ways. Some revive a longforgotten piece of film history with new rapid life, as if the original had never existed, some seem to kick off now, what already Dogma 95 would have liked to achieve: the democratization of cinema. Film crews commit to a collective way of working, letting the actors‘ own stories come in, and improvising instead of making screenplays for film subsidizing institutions. Reality and fiction often go parallely here, imitating each other and make for surprising discoveries.. I‘m intrigued that, viewing the more than 200 films for the Saas-Fee Filmfest, we could  see so many courageous, intellegent movies, and a great thanks goes to the film makers for their inspiring work! Had we not had a location yet for showing the essence of this rich film harvest, it would be hard to imagine a venue more apt for being inspired than this glacier village surrounded by fourthousand-metre  mountains, wearing an almost archaic patina. I‘m looking forward to reviving the wonderful Cinema Rex with the Saas-Fee Filmfest, and I would like to invite you all to be infected and perhaps play with fire a bit yourself ...
