Revanche

"Too soft, you want to be a tough guy, but you aren't, everyone can see that." is what brothel janitor Alex' boss tells him. When young ucrainian prostitute Tamara, with whom Alex has a secret relationship, gets threatened, Alex' time has come. He smuggles her out of the brothel. But during the bank robbery, which was meant to pay for their flight to Spain, she gets hit. Alex hides away at his grandfather's in the countryside. A neighbour who comes to visit the old man every other day is the wife of the police officer who fired the deadly shot at Tamara ...

Götz Spielmann's oscar-nominated masterpiece, which comes about in plain, archaic-powerful images, is like ANTARES interested in the coincidental entanglement of destinies, it is however even more densely woven and gains a nearly parablelike dimension.

Götz Spielmann
Born in 1961 in Wels, Northern Austria, and raised in Vienna. With ANTARES (2004) he established himself as one of the most important Austrian auteur filmmakers, also at the international level. In addition to cinema, he worked for theatre and founded the production company Spielmann Film. He spent a few years as a guest lecturer at several German film universities, then in 2008 he directed REVANCHE, which won numerous international awards at festivals like the Berlinale and was nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Academy Awards.

After welcoming his daughter Anna, in 2011 he became a screenwriting professor at the Film Academy in Vienna, a city that he loves and continues to live in. In 2013 he directed OKTOBER NOVEMBER.
