The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

The mysterious Dr. Caligari exhibits the prophesying sleepwalker Cesare at the fairground of Holstenwall. Cesare forebodes death to curious Alan, and indeed Alan is murdered the same night. His best friend Franzis takes up investigations on his own account and gets entrapped more and more in a net of madness ...
THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI was the first success of Weimar cinema. It was not only shown in Germany with great audience response but also in Paris, London and New York. Its formal expressionist novelty coined the term "Caligarism".
